ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) is the ratio of revenue to ad spend. 2x ROAS means $2 revenue for every $1 ad spend. Break-even ROAS is where revenue covers both product costs and ad spend.
Many businesses operate at 1.5-2x ROAS and call it 'profitable' but forget that overhead, fulfillment, and returns aren't included. True profitability requires ROAS 2.5-4x or higher.
Strategic ROAS targeting: Set break-even as your floor. Aim for 3x ROAS as your operational target. Anything 4x+ is highly profitable. Scale confidently above 4x.
